Fleck learned and trained under highly regarded goalkeeper coach Des McAleenan, currently of Al-Hilal FC and formerly of the New York Red Bulls, who has trained top level GKs including Tim Howard, Tony Meola, Ronald Waterreus and Johnny Walker. During a four-year career at Quinnipiac University, Fleck captained the squad, while receiving honors from both his institution and the Northeast Conference for his performance on the field and in the classroom.

Following college, he had a short stint with the AISL championship side Massachusetts Twisters. During this time, he remained at Quinnipiac as an Assistant Coach/Goalkeeper Coach and was part of one of the biggest turnarounds in NCAA history as the Bobcats set the record for the best start to a season in the NEC. Under Fleck’s direction, GK Freddy Hall (Toronto FC, Bermudian National Team) led Division I in Saves per Game and Save Percentage, while garnering all Region accolades and a top 5 rating in ESPN Soccernet’s MLS SuperDraft rankings.

After two years at Quinnipiac, Fleck began a two-year post as an Assistant Coach at Southern Connecticut State University with the women’s side. There, he trained All-Conference and All-New England talent both seasons with the program.

On the youth side, Fleck spent time as a trainer with West Hartford Premier Soccer (currently FSA FC United, CT) and was part of a contingent that brought two title winning sides to the Arsenal International Soccer Festival in London. He was also a staff coach with Joe Machnik’s No.1 Soccer Camps, instructing both strikers and goalkeepers. While in Connecticut, Fleck was a sought after authority in goalkeeper instruction, ranging from basic fundamentals to high level training sessions for players of all ages. Since coming to New Jersey, Fleck has worked with a number of clubs to and goalkeepers on a private basis.

“Paul has worked for me and played for me for many years. As a player his hard work, perseverance and leadership led him to being a starting Gk at the Div. 1 level. As a coach those same attributes have led him to be one of the upcoming Gk coaches in the area.”
