Just 4 Keepers’ Coach Stephen Swanger’s session plan  Tacoma, Washington.

Goalkeepers circulate around the goal area between footwork, simulated collapse dive, and a high ball served over a rope or hurdle.

Detail

A ball is placed to the outside of each post, hurdles or a cord is place on the top of the goal area, and footwork drill is placed to the outside of goal area

1) GK picks up and simulates a collapsed dive on 1st post.

2) GK moves across the face of goal and runs to the top of the goal area and catches the ball at the highest point while in the air

3) GK moves to to footwork over a hurdle, around cones, etc.

4) GK picks up ball and simulates a collapsed dive on 2nd post.

Organization

Goalkeepers circulate around the goal area between footwork, simulated collapse dive, and a high ball served over a rope or hurdle.

Key Coaching Points

Collapsed Dive:

Use quick footwork to get into proper diving position

Step to the side the ball is on, forward at an angle

Use the near leg push to drive to the ball

Get both hands to the ball to make the catch, using a good “W” catch

Collapse softly to the ground, putting the ball down first to cushion the fall and landing on the side (hip and shoulder)

Jumping for high ball:

Catch the ball at the highest point in the W or diamond shape Jump off the foot that is away from pressure or makes you avoid twisting the trunk.
