With so much focus on winning in Washington’s Premier Soccer Clubs, and relying solely on a team’s tactical performance, the Pacific Northwest Soccer scene simply does not focus enough on goalkeeper develpment. Instead, while consistently posting youth soccer clubs on social media of teams winning trophies wasting thousands of parent’s dollars on so-called show-case tournaments, they brag about a keepers’ Goal Against Average, and yet offer little or no goalkeeper training or forego pure goalkeeper development for pure team tactics.  Not to take away from the club’s success, but in terms of pure development of a goalkeeper, clubs have it all wrong.

When these premier clubs focus so much on winning they offer goalkeepers the opportunity to brag about their Goals Against Average , and many times universities come calling.  But, we know as professional goalkeeper coaches at Just 4 Keepers that clubs and soccer recruiters are missing out on development. According to Just 4 Keepers coach Simon Robinson of J4K East Pennsylvania and ODP coach the more important statistic for goalkeepes is, “‘Number of Clean Catches,’ ‘ Number of Accurate Throws,’ and, ‘Number of Times the Keeper advances to Collect a Through Ball.’ Moreover he says, “It’s also important to keep track of areas for further development, although “negative” focus directly on correcting mistakes, such as; ‘Number of times ball was Dropped/Spilled,’ ‘Number of Times Keeper was late Getting to the Ball’ and, ‘Number of Intercepted Rolls.'”

This focus purely on the individual goalkeeper and their development and away from the soccer club “spend all to win all approach” is what makes training with Just 4 Keepers the best option for goalkeeper development.   What’s even better is that through our network of coaches throughout the USA and worldwide, we can provide goalkeepers with options to play even when they don’t play on a soccer club’s top winning team.  At our goalkeeper camps, clinics, and weekly sessions, our goalkeeper coaches will help goalkeeper achieve dreams that they didn’t think was possible because of their club’s win-all approach.
