Many goalkeepers have the talent and ability to make it professional, but many fail.

So whats the difference between making a career out of soccer and playing soccer on a Sunday in a park? Luck? ability? talent? motivation?

Goalkeepers ask me all the time how do I get into a professional club? and how do I get scouted?. The answer is simple, hard work!

There was a recent survey in America where they took all college athletes in the US in different sports to see how many made it professional. Baseball had the highest percentage at 2%. There was 471,025 baseball players in high school, 31,264 in college and only 806 made it professional. I know soccer is a different sport but the statistics are the same.

I have put the above statistics above, not to put you off, but to show you that you need to work hard to be a professional goalkeeper.

The difference between a successful person and others is not a lack of strength, not a lack of knowledge, but rather a lack of will. (Vincent T. Lombardi) This sports quote can go a long way. It doesn’t matter if you have the technical ability and skills to be a great goalkeeper. You need to want it and have the desire and motivation to stand out and be apart of that 2%.

Always remember you will make mistakes as a goalkeeper and you will get turned down by football clubs, but remember not to give up.
