Many years ago goalkeepers were used to just save shots from the opposition. Now goalkeepers don’t just need to be good at saving shots, they need to be able to start attacks by passing the football out from the back, start quick counter attacks with their distribution and deal with pass backs.

Practising your kick ups, kicking a ball against a wall, dribble around some cone etc. These techniques are just as important for a goalkeeper these days.

When I do one2one coaching with my goalkeepers I always state how important it is to practice your distribution, close control and using both left and right foot. If you start practicing these skills and techniques when your young, you will have a great advantage when your older.
